“There’s a great division coming about on this planet. There are going to be a lot of people who will die because they just don’t know how to live. They don’t know what life’s about, they don’t know how to give, how to love – nor do they want to. And those who are beautiful enough – I don’t mean physically but something beyond that – they will have the chance to learn how to fly, to be beautiful, to rise above the level of the normal human – to be superior beings first and eventually gods and goddesses.” – Donyale Luna, April 1975

“Solitude is where you find yourself so you can reach out to other people and form real attachments. When we don’t have the capacity for solitude, we turn to other people in order to feel less anxious, or in order to feel alive. When this happens, we’re not able to appreciate who they are. It’s as though we’re using them as spare parts to support our fragile sense of self. We slip into thinking that always being connected is going to make us feel less alone, but we’re at risk because it’s the opposite that’s true. If we’re not able to be alone, we’re going to be more lonely.” – Sherry Turkle

“When you meet anyone, remember it is a holy encounter. As you see him you will see yourself. As you treat him you will treat yourself. As you think of him you will think of yourself. Never forget this, for in him you will find yourself or lose yourself. Whenever two Sons of God meet, they are given another chance at salvation. Do not leave anyone without giving salvation to him and receiving it yourself.” – A Course in Miracles

Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try! ~Dr. Seuss

“So therefore I dedicate myself to myself, to my art, my sleep, my dreams, my labors, my suffrances, my loneliness, my unique madness, my endless absorption and hunger- because I cannot dedicate myself to any fellow being.” – Jack Kerouac

We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. ~Buddha

“If we could live without passion maybe we’d know some kind of peace … but we would be hollow … Empty rooms shuttered and dank. Without passion we’d be truly dead.” –  Joss Whedon

“Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music.” – Angela Monet

“Nothing great in the world has been accomplished without passion” – Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel

“If I have been able to see further than others, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants.” – Sir Isaac Newton

“Some writers confuse authenticity, which they ought always to aim at, with originality, which they should never bother about.” – W.H. Auden

“I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen.” – Ernest Hemingway

“We must, therefore, pursue the things that make for happiness, seeing that when happiness is present, we have everything; but when it is absent, we do everything to possess it.”
Epicurus

“Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person.” – Albert Einstein

Although we presume that we act because of the way we feel, in fact, we often feel because of the way we act. More than a century ago, philosopher and psychologist William James described this phenomenon: “Action seems to follow feeling, but really action and feeling go together; and by regulating the action, which is under the more direct control of the will, we can indirectly regulate the feeling, which is not.”  By acting as if you feel a certain way, you induce that emotion in yourself.

There is a terrible hunger for love.
We all experience that in our lives – the pain, the loneliness.
We must have the courage to recognize it.
The poor you may have right in your own family. Find them. Love them. ~Mother Teresa

I love actors and by extension, the theatre. I love the minutia that surrounds them both. I love listening and telling Green Room War stories. I love the onstage triumphs and yes, I love even the disasters. I love the adrenaline that shoots thru every Actor on stage when something goes wrong, and the relief that sweeps thru when some heroic Actor saves the day. I love performance. The time when the human beings on stage interact with the human beings in the audience and together they create the event of performance. It’s one of life’s most civilized experiences. It has been said that an Actor must have the hide of a rhinoceros, the courage and audacity of a lion, and most importantly, the fragile vulnerability of an egg. It also has been said, and I’m not sure by whom, that the moment of not knowing is the moment that has the potential for creativity. The professional and private lives of Actors are filled to the brim with moments of not knowing. Actors are survivors and will continue to strive because they have the need to celebrate, in performance, that sacred communion between Actor and audience.” Robert Prosky

One of the best ways to make yourself  happy is to make someone else happy;
One of the best ways to make someone else happy is to be happy yourself.
Happy people make people happy.
Making people happy makes people happy.

“It is often said that the best creative work accomplished by anyone at any time is done at the point of desperation (desperation understood as the most intense degree of desire)”.

You are the only person who is in charge of how you feel about yourself. Nobody else can possibly do that. You get to decide if you believe you are beautiful or not, and nobody can take it away from you. If someone suggests that you aren’t beautiful, you can consider how sad it is that they have such a limited view of beauty. You can consider how unfortunate it is that they have such an exaggerated sense of self-importance that they think you should care about what they think. You can also choose to realize that it has nothing at all to do with your beauty and everything to do with their limitations. – Ragen Chastain

“I wish to hold you; then drink stardust and say permanently ‘farewell.’” – John Keats, Letters Of John Keats

“I was raised up believing I was somehow unique. Like a snowflake distinct among snowflakes, unique in each way you can see. And now after some thinking, I’d say I’d rather be a functioning cog in some great machinery serving something beyond me.” –Fleet Foxes

“Try to learn to breathe deeply, really to taste food when you eat, and when you sleep, really to sleep. Try as much as possible to be wholly alive with all your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell. And when you get angry, get good and angry. Try to be alive. You will be dead soon enough.” – Ernest Hemingway
