This is who are you. I wish this was some sort of metaphor for anything other than what is happening – you are seeing yourself.
Chances are you never saw yourself before.
What i’m trying to say is, this is not a distorted image like you’re used to.
You are not looking for yourself / You are looking at yourself.
I repeat, this is who you are.
Not who think you are. Not the face you thought you knew. This is exactly what other people see when they look at you. This isn’t a reflection, it’s the image of you.
Normally a mirror is reassurance. That you are still here. That you still look like what you look like. It’s food for the approval addiction.
In actuality, a mirror dulls you. Dulls your sense of self, dulls this thing your in eyes, look in your eyes, this spark… A mirror removes light from you.
Think of America as this reflection and all of a sudden we got a glimpse into a true mirror, we saw ourselves, and it was intense.
I say liberating. That seeing yourself, seeing what others see is the most liberating. This image is what’s walking through the world. This person who’s only job is to be as unlike them as you can imagine.
Look again. Even now, you are not the same person who walked in here. Have you thought about that? Even now you have changed. Aren’t we all always exchanging cells?
The secret to life: Is that we all have our own things. And we are always saying, “just be yourself” and we’ve been told, “just be yourself” so this image is yourself, and maybe maybe you can just BE yourself.
Through all of it. Through all the change your life is the message. Through all the change, through all the pennies, socks, diets, presidents, disasters, growth, pain, diaper changes, changes of address, pocket change, change of seasons, through the whole cacophony you are the constant. This beautiful face. This beautiful you. This unique, one in seven billion and no one or nothing like you. Never will be.
From this moment, you can wipe the slate clean.
“Whether you are sixteen or sixty, the rest of your life is ahead of you. You cannot change one moment of your past, but you can change your whole future. Now is your time.”
You are the constant in the sea of change. In the words of Vonnegut, “and so it is.” Life is frustrating and full of pitfalls and dead ends, but everybody’s gotta do it. No one really knows God’s ways. Be foolish to try and understand them. Shit happens, and it’s awful, but it’s also okay. We deal with it because we have to.
kindness, this is a necessity, this is unchanging. Kidness, that is a constant.
