If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!Stress is something we all experience from time to time and it can be caused by a whole host of different situations. Some of the most common triggers include relationships, money and work or a huge change in our lives, e.g. a bereavement, moving house, unemployment or divorce. But sometimes, the cause of stress can be something minor like finding it difficult to deal with children or feeling unappreciated at work. In other cases, there may be no identifiable cause. Not all stress is negative, as research has found that stress, at a moderate level, …

The only Time We Suffer, Is When We Go Against What Is

The Only Time We Suffer, Is When We Go Against What Is.

The only time we suffer is when we believe a thought that argues with what is. It Hurts When I Argue With Reality

It Hurts When I Argue With Reality

“I am a lover of what is, not because I’m a spiritual person, but because it hurts when I argue with reality.” The only time we suffer is when we believe a thought that argues with what is. When the mind is perfectly clear, what is is what we want. If you want reality to be different than it is, you might as well try to teach a cat to bark. You can try and try, and in the end the cat will look up at you and say, “Meow.” Wanting reality to be different than it is is hopeless. You can spend the rest of your life trying to …

Chasing The Dream

CHASING THE DREAM

“Anyone who has ever struggled with poverty knows how extremely expensive it is to be poor.” – James Baldwin You pay more for car insurance because of where you live. You pay more for rent, way more than your place is worth. Your pay more for food, because it cost more in poor neighborhoods. Never mind that ”healthy” food is on average $45 more a month. You pay a higher percentage of your income in state and local taxes. You cash checks at places that take a cut. You can’t have a bank account because you can’t afford the fees. You pay more for public transit, because you can’t afford …

Plant Your Passions DEEP

Plant Your Passions DEEP

Even as a young man I knew passion was like a plant. Uproot it and it will wilt. Pluck at it and it will die. Leave it to thrive in the soul and it will flourish, weathering god, drought and winds. It is born with the soil, and well planted, it will live long and deep; as the soil shall live so shall the passion.   If you find joy and value in what I do and share, please consider supporting with a recurring or one time donation of your choosing, between a cup of coffee and some Trader Joe’s snacks. Once Upon A Time, People Were Not Separate From Each Other

Once Upon A Time, People Were Not Separate From Each Other

Once upon a time, people were not born separate from each other. They were born entwined, kind of coupled with each other. So there were boys attached to boys, and there were girls attached to girls, and of course, boys and girls together in a wonderfully intimate ball. And back then we had eight limbs. There were four on top,  four on the bottom, and you didn’t have to walk if you didn’t want to. You could roll, and roll we did. We rolled backwards and we rolled forwards, achieving fantastic speeds that gave us a kind of courage. And then the courage swelled to pride. And the pride became …

Do Not Lose Awareness Of The Suffering That Is Going On In The World

Do Not Lose Awareness Of The Suffering That Is Going On In The World

Compassion is not blind energy. With it, we practice in order to learn ways to protect the lives of people, animals, plants, and minerals. Do not lose awareness of the suffering that is going on in the world. Nourish that kind of awareness by whatever means possible: images, direct contact, visits, people, connection, story, and so on. We have to do that in order to keep both the awareness of the suffering and compassion alive in us. But experiencing too much suffering is not good. Any medicine must be taken in the proper dosage. We need to stay in touch with suffering only to the extent that we will not …

Storytelling Is The Truth Of It All

Storytelling Is The Truth Of It All

To practice storytelling is to become alive. Life is precious, yet in our daily lives we are carried away by our forgetfulness, anger and worries. We are often lost in the future hopes, unable to touch life in the present moment. When we are truly alive, everything we touch or do is magnificent. To practice mindful storytelling is to return to life in the present moment, to take ownership of what has come before. When we tell our story, we see the suffering that is caused by the destruction of life everywhere, we that persistence and passion and resolve and compassion can overcome the hardest of times, and we vow …

Practicing Mindfulness, We See The Suffering That Is Caused By The Destruction Of Life

Practicing Mindfulness, We See The Suffering That Is Caused By The Destruction Of Life

To practice mindfulness is to become alive. Life is so precious, yet in our daily lives we are carried away by our forgetfulness, anger and worries. We are often lost in the past, unable to touch life in the present moment. When we are truly alive, everything we touch or do is a miracle. To practice mindfulness is to return to life in the present moment. Practicing mindfulness, we see the suffering that is caused by the destruction of life everywhere, and we vow to cultivate compassion and use it as a source of energy to protect the lives of people, animals, plants and minerals. When we see suffering, compassion …

I Know Who I Am. Do You?

I Know Who I Am. Do You?

I know why I got here. How I get here. I know the extent of my crimes and betrayals. The wrongs I’ve done. I know when I’ve gone against my heart. I know who I am. Do you? Can you say that? Do you know that this, all this is your doing? And what’s to come, that’s on you too. So, who are you? If you don’t know who are, don’t ask anything else.   If you find joy and value in what I do and share, please consider supporting with a recurring or one time donation of your choosing, between a cup of coffee and some Trader Joe’s snacks. …
