Hey! … A life inspired poem by Christopher Rivas
When life flashes before me, I will leave the lies behind, for in this life there is no room for laziness, in this body no room for sloth. Firmly, I will enter the path of absorbing and knowing. Now that I’ve finally met myself, there’s no time left to stay on the path of disillusion.
I cannot, I must not, I will not sleep like an animal, I will give up corpse-like, oblivious and pointless day-dreaming and enter reality. I will transform my sleep into now.
I will not surrender to the billboards and people dressed like sandwiches. I will reject the myriad and abundant list of distractions and confusions and achieve that absolute true, un-chained freedom that comes from complete focus. No holding, no letting go, just one mind, one body, one place…
I will finally realize that body and flesh are simply body and flesh and bound to leave. And that all beings with a consciousness are suffering human beings, no matter what, and with this understanding I will have compassion for each one.
I will quit the race drenched in doubt, terror, and fear. I will learn to live lightly. Lightly letting this happen and lightly coping. I will not fear my own visions of goddesses and gods fire and ice of my own creation.
I will not be so serious. I will PLAY, the way birds play, bears play, water plays. I will not bow down or rise above but simple PLAY with. I will thank my past actions as the reason I can play today.
I will choose words that heal and encourage. I will choose actions that benefit the world. I will give up all envy, and know all personalities as my Spiritual Mentor, Lover, Father and Mother.
I’ve heard these words, “Oh, you, with your mind distracted, thinking that death will never come for you, Entranced by the pointless activities of mundane life, If you were to return empty-handed now, would not your life’s purpose have been utterly confused? Pointless? Recognize what you truly need! It is a sacred yearning for liberation! So, should you not practice this marvelous teaching beginning from this very moment?”
And so I respond, ”If I don’t put these guidelines to heart, am I not simply lying to myself?”
Peace and Blessings
