By Patiently Practicing You Can Produce A Miracle

Genius is eternal patience – Michelangelo Be patient. Be kind to yourself. Others might give up, get frustrated, and overtime get tired and burned out. They might blame the practice, saying it doesn’t work; while it is a normal reaction to blame something that doesn’t work, look closely. If you do something haphazardly and fail, don’t blame the system. Find out what can be done differently and make the necessary adjustments. Remember – Genius is eternal patience. I AM...

I AM…

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Everything after these two words, “I Am” speaks on our former participation in the world. I Am – “this”, “that”, “man”, “woman”, “30 years old”, “70 years old”, etc. If you want one thing to meditate on, one thing to try and grasp, make it simply “I Am.” I Am… with nothing else attached to it is beyond what our minds can grasp, beyond our imagination. I Am is infinite and boundless and timeless. I Am… is so much more than any word which describes what I have done and previously experienced. Anything post “I Am” is limiting to what I truly Am. I Am is the opening and receiving of …

"Blessed Are The Pure Of Heart, For They Shall See God." An Examination of (Matthew 5:8)

“Blessed Are The Pure Of Heart, For They Shall See God.” An Examination of (Matthew 5:8)

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God. (Matthew 5:8) I think when people come across this scripture, it turns them off, they know that on a surface level there is no way they are pure of heart- not totally pure, not in that way. I am not pure of heart. I have done wrongs, betrayed, not honored my word and I sometimes find myself thinking thoughts (towards myself and others) that are far from compassionate. That being said, does this mean I should walk away from the ability and chance to know God? “Pure of heart” is not perfection and abstinence and washing every person’s dirty …

Want To Know How To Have Peace?

Want To Know How To Have Peace?

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Want to know what is the antidote to the poison that is wanting? Giving. Giving is a medicine that proves you do not need because you have. Giving does not stop what you might get, it doesn’t stop you from living your life, but increases the capacity and availability to reception, to receiving. When to give, the more I empty my vessel from matter-less and heavy gas-filled wants. This empty nothing which weighs me down and takes up space. The more empty I am of wants, the more my heart, mind, and body can listen, receive and focus. Calm action = calm mind. We must cultivate peace throughout our actions, through our conduct, if …

We Have To Work Diligently To keep Our Hearts Open

We Have To Work Diligently To keep Our Hearts Open

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Our hearts could be described as huge muscles that open and close, shrivel and expand, soften and harden, love and hate. We have to work diligently to keep our hearts open, just as we have to work to keep other muscles in the body strong. Purifying our hearts is an ongoing process, like physical exercise. It is, as the poet Galway Kinnell writes, necessary to “reteach a thing its loveliness.” If you find joy and value in what I do and share, please consider supporting with a recurring or one time donation of your choosing, between a cup of coffee and some Trader Joe’s snacks. Breathing In Uncertain Times

Breathing In Uncertain Times

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

How do we practice compassion in a country—and a world—where the roots of racism and oppression run deep. How do we cultivate healing, develop trust, establish community, when racism might simply be a disease of the heart. How do we work with our thoughts and our beliefs in ways that nurture the dignity of all life? How do we ensure justice without fostering generations of harm and hate, internally and externally? How do we comfort our own raging hearts in a sea of racial ignorance, ill will, and violence, and how can our actions reflect the world we want to live in and leave to future generations? We are drowning in …

There Is Nothing To Wait For And Nobody To Blame

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality, Moving & Eating.

You are entirely responsible for cutting through your own laziness, addictions, and unclarity. There is nothing to wait for and nobody to blame. Whatever techniques are appropriate use them: Talk with your friends, use therapy, practice meditation or prayer, go on a VisionQuest, go on a hike, read a book, read scripture, walk in nature, keep a journal, study with the teacher. It really doesn’t matter what you choose, what matters is your actual commitment to discovering the deepest truth and aligning your life with it. You Could Meditate Until You’re Blue In The Face, But It Won’t Work

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

You could meditate until you’re blue in the face, but it won’t work if when it comes down to it, you’d rather masturbate, read the newspaper, or watch TV then cut through your addictions, discipline your daily life, and give your gift from the deepest, most blissful self. The quality of your intent and the consistency and depth of your application determine the results of your direction. Give Up Your Self Concern

Give Up Your Self Concern

by in General, Mindfulness & Spirituality.

When I really think about it, ALL my tension comes from me mulling over my own problems. From me worrying and fretting over the things i want and would like – this endless endless cycle! The cure is to give myself, to create a gift for others, to give what I can give. To remove myself from myself, remove myself from the myth that I have control, remove myself from my own worrying about the things I want and need and put myself into a state of living and giving The main source of bodily tension is self concern. The main cure is to give yourself to others.  Take the tension …

Your Unconsciousness Causes You Pain

Your Unconsciousness Causes You Pain

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

This is not some hocus-pocus theory. You’ve become so good at distracting yourself from the suffering in your life. By putting all your attention into work, TV, sex, snacks, reading. Your suffering remains unseen and the source remains hidden. Your life become structured around everything that is sidestepping the suffering you rarely allow yourself to feel. And if only for a second, you touch the surface of your suffering, perhaps boredom, you quickly pick up the remote control. Feel you’re suffering, rest with it, embrace it, make love with it. Feel you’re suffering so deeply that you penetrate it and realize where it comes from. Open yourself and wait. Do …

Challenge Yourself

When Is The Last Time You Challenged Yourself?

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

To remain conscious and undistracted? Actually challenged yourself? Like to finish that book you’re always talking about. Like, if you don’t write a chapter a week you all your friends $100? Like, if you don’t start that app (you are constantly talking about) within the next month, you have to take us all out to dinner- a nice dinner. The point is, there must be a consequence for freezing in the face of fear. You must instill consequences throughout the rest of your life, unless less you want to cling to the safety net of a comfy and superficial life. Fear is no longer an excuse, unless your being chased …

At Some Point We Have To Give Up Trying So Hard

At Some Point We Have To Give Up Trying So Hard

by in General, Mindfulness & Spirituality.

We have to allow things to simply come to us. We have to let things happen. Don’t get it twisted, this is just as active as a process as going out and doing more stuff, choosing to TRUST the work, effort and energy you have put in, and to simply allow things to now come, because the seeds have been planted. Otherwise we are just running around constantly trying to get and do more because it is never enough and we don’t actually believe that our work or effort matters. At some point we must let go and allow. When you open yourself up to not knowing. When you give …

Understanding and Managing Stress

Understanding and Managing Stress

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality, Moving & Eating.

Stress is something we all experience from time to time and it can be caused by a whole host of different situations. Some of the most common triggers include relationships, money and work or a huge change in our lives, e.g. a bereavement, moving house, unemployment or divorce. But sometimes, the cause of stress can be something minor like finding it difficult to deal with children or feeling unappreciated at work. In other cases, there may be no identifiable cause. Not all stress is negative, as research has found that stress, at a moderate level, can actually improve our performance level. Small amounts of stress can also make us more …

It Hurts When I Argue With Reality

It Hurts When I Argue With Reality

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

“I am a lover of what is, not because I’m a spiritual person, but because it hurts when I argue with reality.” The only time we suffer is when we believe a thought that argues with what is. When the mind is perfectly clear, what is is what we want. If you want reality to be different than it is, you might as well try to teach a cat to bark. You can try and try, and in the end the cat will look up at you and say, “Meow.” Wanting reality to be different than it is is hopeless. You can spend the rest of your life trying to …

Plant Your Passions DEEP

Plant Your Passions DEEP

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Even as a young man I knew passion was like a plant. Uproot it and it will wilt. Pluck at it and it will die. Leave it to thrive in the soul and it will flourish, weathering god, drought and winds. It is born with the soil, and well planted, it will live long and deep; as the soil shall live so shall the passion.   If you find joy and value in what I do and share, please consider supporting with a recurring or one time donation of your choosing, between a cup of coffee and some Trader Joe’s snacks. Do Not Lose Awareness Of The Suffering That Is Going On In The World

Do Not Lose Awareness Of The Suffering That Is Going On In The World

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Compassion is not blind energy. With it, we practice in order to learn ways to protect the lives of people, animals, plants, and minerals. Do not lose awareness of the suffering that is going on in the world. Nourish that kind of awareness by whatever means possible: images, direct contact, visits, people, connection, story, and so on. We have to do that in order to keep both the awareness of the suffering and compassion alive in us. But experiencing too much suffering is not good. Any medicine must be taken in the proper dosage. We need to stay in touch with suffering only to the extent that we will not …

Storytelling Is The Truth Of It All

Storytelling Is The Truth Of It All

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

To practice storytelling is to become alive. Life is precious, yet in our daily lives we are carried away by our forgetfulness, anger and worries. We are often lost in the future hopes, unable to touch life in the present moment. When we are truly alive, everything we touch or do is magnificent. To practice mindful storytelling is to return to life in the present moment, to take ownership of what has come before. When we tell our story, we see the suffering that is caused by the destruction of life everywhere, we that persistence and passion and resolve and compassion can overcome the hardest of times, and we vow …

I repeat: Nothing can distract you from meditation when everything becomes meditation. This is meditation without a path, without a goal, without a script.
