Understanding and Managing Stress

Understanding and Managing Stress

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality, Moving & Eating.

Stress is something we all experience from time to time and it can be caused by a whole host of different situations. Some of the most common triggers include relationships, money and work or a huge change in our lives, e.g. a bereavement, moving house, unemployment or divorce. But sometimes, the cause of stress can be something minor like finding it difficult to deal with children or feeling unappreciated at work. In other cases, there may be no identifiable cause. Not all stress is negative, as research has found that stress, at a moderate level, can actually improve our performance level. Small amounts of stress can also make us more …

It Hurts When I Argue With Reality

It Hurts When I Argue With Reality

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

“I am a lover of what is, not because I’m a spiritual person, but because it hurts when I argue with reality.” The only time we suffer is when we believe a thought that argues with what is. When the mind is perfectly clear, what is is what we want. If you want reality to be different than it is, you might as well try to teach a cat to bark. You can try and try, and in the end the cat will look up at you and say, “Meow.” Wanting reality to be different than it is is hopeless. You can spend the rest of your life trying to …

Plant Your Passions DEEP

Plant Your Passions DEEP

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Even as a young man I knew passion was like a plant. Uproot it and it will wilt. Pluck at it and it will die. Leave it to thrive in the soul and it will flourish, weathering god, drought and winds. It is born with the soil, and well planted, it will live long and deep; as the soil shall live so shall the passion.   If you find joy and value in what I do and share, please consider supporting with a recurring or one time donation of your choosing, between a cup of coffee and some Trader Joe’s snacks. Do Not Lose Awareness Of The Suffering That Is Going On In The World

Do Not Lose Awareness Of The Suffering That Is Going On In The World

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Compassion is not blind energy. With it, we practice in order to learn ways to protect the lives of people, animals, plants, and minerals. Do not lose awareness of the suffering that is going on in the world. Nourish that kind of awareness by whatever means possible: images, direct contact, visits, people, connection, story, and so on. We have to do that in order to keep both the awareness of the suffering and compassion alive in us. But experiencing too much suffering is not good. Any medicine must be taken in the proper dosage. We need to stay in touch with suffering only to the extent that we will not …

Storytelling Is The Truth Of It All

Storytelling Is The Truth Of It All

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

To practice storytelling is to become alive. Life is precious, yet in our daily lives we are carried away by our forgetfulness, anger and worries. We are often lost in the future hopes, unable to touch life in the present moment. When we are truly alive, everything we touch or do is magnificent. To practice mindful storytelling is to return to life in the present moment, to take ownership of what has come before. When we tell our story, we see the suffering that is caused by the destruction of life everywhere, we that persistence and passion and resolve and compassion can overcome the hardest of times, and we vow …

Practicing Mindfulness, We See The Suffering That Is Caused By The Destruction Of Life

Practicing Mindfulness, We See The Suffering That Is Caused By The Destruction Of Life

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

To practice mindfulness is to become alive. Life is so precious, yet in our daily lives we are carried away by our forgetfulness, anger and worries. We are often lost in the past, unable to touch life in the present moment. When we are truly alive, everything we touch or do is a miracle. To practice mindfulness is to return to life in the present moment. Practicing mindfulness, we see the suffering that is caused by the destruction of life everywhere, and we vow to cultivate compassion and use it as a source of energy to protect the lives of people, animals, plants and minerals. When we see suffering, compassion …

I Know Who I Am. Do You?

I Know Who I Am. Do You?

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

I know why I got here. How I get here. I know the extent of my crimes and betrayals. The wrongs I’ve done. I know when I’ve gone against my heart. I know who I am. Do you? Can you say that? Do you know that this, all this is your doing? And what’s to come, that’s on you too. So, who are you? If you don’t know who are, don’t ask anything else.   If you find joy and value in what I do and share, please consider supporting with a recurring or one time donation of your choosing, between a cup of coffee and some Trader Joe’s snacks. …

Nothing Can Distract You from Meditation When Everything Becomes Meditation.

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

I repeat: Nothing can distract you from meditation when everything becomes meditation. This is meditation without a path, without a goal, without a script. It is meeting everything within you as a good friend, as a teacher, as a lover, as a the thing itself. God Does Not Want To Control You

God Does Not Want To Control You

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Come on. God does not want to stifle you, or manipulate you, or force you to do anything you don’t want to do. Quite the opposite. God will let you do whatever you want to do, whenever you want to do it, with whomever you want to do it, and as often as you want to do it. When was the last time God stopped you from doing anything? #stopblaming #startliving If you find joy and value in what I do and share, please consider supporting with a recurring or one time donation of your choosing, between a cup of coffee and some Trader Joe’s snacks. All Fear Is Outcome Based; No Longer Let Fear Stop You.

All Fear Is Outcome Based; No Longer Let Fear Stop You.

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Fear is crippling. Fear has stopped masses from living life, more importantly, form enjoying life. When you remove yourself from outcome you place yourself in income. I would say most and close to all fears are based on outcome, our attachments to what we want to happen or what we don’t want to happen. Here is mostly directly correlated to anything but what’s currently happening. unless in the moment your life is threatened, then fear has a purpose, what if your life is and threatened, what purpose to sphere have? What purpose does focusing on an outcome have? When I remove myself from outcomes, my attachment to outcomes, whether that …

Prayer

Prayer: Is A Direct Conversation With The Things You Already Know, You Just Didn’t Ask. 🙏🏽

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Not the thinking part, the knowing part. Too many people are in conversation with what they think, when simultaneously what they KNOW is there the whole time, they weren’t asking that part or giving that part a voice. You pray so often, you get so into it, that it isn’t 24 seconds of, “oh, thank you for this and this and this would be great, in your name, etc…” Its praying so consistently, conversing with that wise one IN you, higher self, true self, ego-less self (pick one), that your life becomes a prayer. Every step is that prayer of knowing. Like Hafiz says, “I am a flute in which …

Today Marks The Beginning Of A New Political Era

Today Marks The Beginning Of A New Political Era

by in General, Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Today marks the beginning of a new political era. America has rarely been more #divided, we have never before seen such a figure as Donald Trump assume leadership of the nation. Amid this turmoil, the community is grappling with how to best think, speak, and act in this fraught political climate, especially in regard to protecting the rights of minorities. My mission is to live a life that honors and upholds the well-being of others, to act against ignorance and hate in our world. May we keep our heads and hearts aligned over the four years to come. If you find joy and value in what I do and share, …

Inauguration Message To An Un-Presidential Precedent

Inauguration Message To An Un-Presidential Precedent

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

I Will Not. Not now; not ever. I will not drink from your poisoned well of lies. I will not dine from your banquet of hateful xenophobia. I will not breathe your noxious air, tainted by your sequestered life of detached entitlement and filtered by your carefully constructed moat of homogeneity. I will not stand by in idle witness to the devastation you think is the beautiful path to progress, right and good. I will not attempt to see through your angry eyes, red-rimmed and hateful, your snake-iris view of the world skewed by a past that has shaped your hatred of all that is unlike you. I will not …

Patience Is Easy If I Let Things Happen

Patience Is Easy If I Let Things Happen

by in General, Mindfulness & Spirituality.

If I practice and master the art of letting things come, really just letting what comes come; I no longer need to be patient for the things I want, because I will receive the things being given to me. Just thinking “letting go” or “let go” eases the tension in my body, eases all the pressure i put on myself to get and get and get. I can continue to live and move towards goals and aspirations with no attachments to an outcome if I simply receive. In a state of receiving, I am getting what is coming, I have more room for gratitude and awareness to the things that are …

You’re Never Out Of The Game Until You’re Actually Dead

You’re Never Out Of The Game Until You’re Actually Dead

by in General, Mindfulness & Spirituality, Moving & Eating.

You’re always in the game. Always… It’s not like you fail at somethign and then you’re out. No, you’re still in, despite how it might feel in the moment, you are still in. No subs here, no coach on the sideline to replace you; as long as you are alive, you are still very much in the game. So, if you’re down, get up. If you are frozen, move forward; just keep moving, one step at a time, one breath at a time. Life is a game, a game with rules, that if followed and respected can be played quite well. Play the game to the best of your ability …

How To Overcome A Fear Of Asking for Help

How To Overcome A Fear Of Asking for Help

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Asking for help sounds like the easiest thing in the world to do – yet for many of us, it’s the most difficult. Asking for help often pushes our psychological buttons. Perhaps, it’s a question of pride. We would rather people think we’re completely self-sufficient. Perhaps, it’s embarrassing, and an image of a panhandler comes to mind. Perhaps, it’s the thought of rejection and the imagined sting of a flat-out refusal. It’s different for everyone. While some people are quite uninhibited about asking for help, some of us feel sensitive about it, feeling mortified even if we need to ask for help with small things. Sometimes You Have No Choice …

Keep Someone So Busy They Won't Be Able To Wake Up Or Even Have The Time To Think About Waking Up

Keep Someone So Busy They Won’t Be Able To Wake Up Or Even Have The Time To Think About Waking Up

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Thinking is necessary to waking up. We must think to wake up. We must think “wake up”. In a way, the time to think, the time to watch and choose our thoughts, makes thinking this highly valuable commodity only accessed through time. The average man doesn’t know who he is or what he thinks. He’s under the influence of all the business around him. He’s lumped himself into the common lumps of everyone else. Standing out takes time and thought, but he’s too busy for thinking. He’s too bombarded with thoughts that are forced upon him. Norms that are hammered into him on film, television, media, billboards, and guys dressed …

What Would It Take For Me To Except That My Life Is Governed By Chance, By Laws That I Have No Idea About?

What Would It Take For Me To Except That My Life Is Governed By Chance, By Laws That I Have No Idea About?

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

What would it take for me to except that my life is governed by chance, by laws that I have no idea about? Even Einstein said, “The best explanation science can offer for the things that happened in the universe is that they happen as in a game of chance.” Chance. All this crumble or grows by chance. There really is no explanation for the game of life; and yet, we all want to understand things. We all want to find an explanation that satisfies reason, anything to make it all make sense. We want to understand so bad, that we go beyond reason, we go into superstition and religion …

#STAYWOKE

#STAYWOKE

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

The first noble truth says simply that it’s part of being human to feel discomfort. It is clear to me, that in this country and abroad, a fire has broken out, we have faced fires before; Now, we must fight like we have never fought before! It will not be easy, but we were born fighters, and lovers, but yes- fighters. We must fight against injustices in our every day lives, not only for ourselves but for the people and communities who need it most.  This starts with small acts (and not behind a screen, but in real every day life actions): educating yourself, showing compassion, using your voice-by any …

If Your Body Shows Up That’s One Thing, If Your Energy Shows Up That’s Another

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

If your body shows up that’s one thing. If your energy shows up that’s another. That’s the faith of a mustard seed moving a mountain. It’s not a lot of faith, it’s simple actual faith. Energy and body showing up as one. That’s spiritual physics dominating physical physics. That’s what I aim for. The place where nothing scares you and everything is possible. Let us all show up as one. Body and mind. Heart and soul. Words and actions simultaneous and one.   If you find joy and value in what I do and share, please consider supporting with a recurring or one time donation of your choosing, between a cup …

Meditation Is About Figuring Out “Where We Are”

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Meditation Is About Figuring Out “Where We Are”.  “Where am I?” Part of me is afraid about tomorrow. Part of me is worried about my finances. Part of me is planning out what I’m gonna say to her. Part of me is thinking why I don’t ever get it right. Part of me has a numb leg and an itch. “Where am I?” In meditation we figure out where we are.   If you find joy and value in what I do and share, please consider supporting with a recurring or one time donation of your choosing, between a cup of coffee and some Trader Joe’s snacks. How Can I Expect To Be Well Fed With A Closed Mouth

How Can I Expect To Be Well Fed With A Closed Mouth

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “A closed mouth don’t get fed”. If not, it means if you aren’t prepared for what you want, you can’t expect to get it. Maybe you’ll get what it is you want, after time and time again of life knocking and knocking at your doorstep yelling, “Take me, allow me to take care of you, I know you want this, so let me give you the things you want.” Life shouldn’t and doesn’t have to yell and fight so hard for you to be at ease with it, if you simply prepare yourself. Let’s take relationships, more often or not we want these relationships, these things …

I'll Change… Not Tomorrow, TODAY.

I’ll Change… Not Tomorrow, TODAY.

by in Mindfulness & Spirituality.

Sit down and write everything you know you should do but don’t do. And then sit down and write everything you know you shouldn’t do but do do. (Yes I said do do)… And now begin to see all the excuses you have for not developing your will. See all the excuses for not changing. If your body shows up that’s one thing. If your energy shows up that’s another. That’s the faith of a mustard seed moving a mountain. It’s not a lot of faith, it’s simply actual faith. Energy and body showing up as one. That’s spiritual physics dominating physical physics. That’s what I aim for. If you find …

Heartbreak Reveals Who We Are

Heartbreak Reveals Who You Are. That Said, Fight To Love MORE

by in General, Mindfulness & Spirituality.

HEARTBREAK is unpreventable; the natural outcome of caring for people and things over which we have no control… Heartbreak begins the moment we are asked to let go but cannot, in other words, heartbreak is the very essence of being human, of being on the journey from here to there, and of coming to care deeply for what we find along the way. There is almost no path a human being can follow that does not lead to heartbreak. Realizing heartbreak is inescapable, we can see heartbreak not as the end of the road, but the road. Heartbreak reveals who we are. Heartbreak asks us not to look for another …
